Late Great Planet Earth 5: The Plot.

It was that time again. Time to surface. Kagome glared at the door, but her heart was almost beating out of her chest. This was ridiculous. She came back a few days ago from another trip to the surface and another “game”. She cringed and winced as it ran through her mind like a bad, silent horror movie…

This time Inuyasha won. His “reward” was to fight her again, Karate still again. Kagome couldn’t match his speed and got pinned against a palm tree, which made her see spots as she struggled. He smirked at her and sliced her arms with his claw, then licked the blood. Kagome refused to cry, she was mad and kneed him in the crouch, which she knew was a bad move. She tried to run, but he grabbed her ankles and threw her into a cherry tree, the sakura petals falling around her. She was cringing and looked up at her enemy. He stood there, watching her every move as she wheezed, her blood smear on the trunk of the tree. Her scent mixed with her blood and cherry blossoms. She got up and leaned on the trunk. It annoyed Inuyasha how she wouldn’t stay down, but his warrior side respected it. It meant more fun. But as he stood there, her clothes and padded armor soaked in blood, the Sakura blossoms falling around her, she was alluring. He ran to pin her to the tree, but she howled in pain as she rolled out of the way. Sakura leaves stuck to her blood onto her body, but gravel also imbedded in her wounds. She ran and weaved through the trees. She had broken the rules. She broke the deal. She got thrown down and she fell into a hole. It was deep and she landed in water. This was probably the old sewer, but from years of not any people, it was leaves and rainwater. She hid in the darkness. She heard Inuyasha laugh. She was drenched when she returned up. Inuyasha was nowhere in sight. The vault was directly out of the storm drench outage down the way. She heard leaves crumble and shouted her code, barely missing a swat, she flew into the door. Inuyasha skid to a stop and glared at her as her scowling face disappeared behind the sliding piece of titanium. He never went inside in fear of being trapped. If he got in, he couldn’t get out.

She shook her head of the memories, touching the places still sore from the fights, some wounds so big, not even the rejuvenation chamber could rid of the scars. This was getting too much. More and more with every game he won, he got more violent and more brutal. Nibbling was tolerable… but she was not weak. She wasn’t going to be ruled and dictated. She had had enough…There had to be a way. But she ran her memory through.

“The Storm drain! It’s big enough for me to easily travel through, and among the leaves and mud, that should hide my scent!”

She almost cried for joy. No more would she have to subject herself to the monster. Open the vault door and jump into the storm drain before he can get her. He was too big to fit. If she’s down there. He couldn’t get her. Now to figure out where the storm drain openings went to. She’d explore today. Couldn’t be too hard. Could it?

She stood at the door and prepared herself to sprint. She had her canteens and camelbacks, her knife strapped at the waist, her lamp strapped on a band around her forehead. She armed herself and said her code. She gulped as it started to open. Right when it was big enough, she sprinted to the nearest storm drain, which was about 20 ft away. Her heart raced and her adrenaline pumped as she jumped in feet first. The water was a good 4 1/2 feet deep. She was 5’3*, so it was enough the cushion her 12 ft fall into the huge, concrete cave, the sun shinning in through the scattered storm drains.

Inuyasha sat in a tree near the museum. He heard the vault door open, so he patiently waited. Her smell excited him, his body ran with excitement as his predatory instincts kicked in. After the last bit she pulled, she was going to pay dearly and taught a lesson. He wouldn’t kill her, but he’ll take her as his prisoner…then the torture would begin, putting her in her place. She was his property, since she would travel on his land. Then like a brick, a jolt of disappointment hit him when the vault stopped and her smell disappear.

   “How dare she mock me!?”

His red eyes glowed in anger as he growled loudly like a feral dog. He ran toward the vault and smirked when he got her scent again. She skid to the vault door to sniff her out. He ran toward the fresh scent. He smelt it behind a bush. He snarled and chuckled, “I thought you knew better Kagome. Think hiding behind a bush will fool me? He ran and swiped air when he jumped behind the bush. He landed on one of her sweaters. He picked it up, sinking his claws into the material, snarling and growling before he screamed at the stop of his lungs,

“KAAAAAAAGOMEEEEE!”

Meanwhile, in the drain, she heard his angry growling yell, which echoed off the mountains and buildings, even down into the catechism of the sewer. She waded through the thick debris, thanking Kami-sama above he hasn’t tracked her into the sewer. She waded north toward the museum. She had to look up through the side-walk storm drains up at the building. Finally, she saw the shining of the glass dome. She smiled and found the nearest manhole. The lid was already partially slide off, but the thick lid had to way almost as much as she. She climbed up the ladder and found she barely fit. She poked her head up, reading for any scans of body movement. All clear. She carefully, with wet, vinyl boots, stepped to the museum. Successes!
She hid on the other side of the fountain. She kept watch on the main entrance while she filled all her water. After she was done, she packed up again. Then she saw a flash of silver and grey outside.

“Oh…no…”

There had to be a storm drain to the side of the museum. She snuck to the north wing. She heard echoes. Her heart beat almost out of her chest. He was inside the museum. Out of blind panic, she ran to the back of the museum. She knew Inuyasha would pick up her scent. She had to be cunning. She ran around the north wing, covering it which her scent, then threw something into the east wing and ran for the nearest door. She watched as Inuyasha feel for it. He caught her in the corner of his sight as she ran out of the museum. Like the predator he was, he wasted no second in racing to her. He ran outside, but she was gone and her smell stopped abruptly. She was gone. He punched in a column and broke the windows on the door as she swam in the water below him, swimming like a mermaid to propel herself without kicking.

She slid into the under ground vault and hit her head on the sleek tile. She rubbed her head as the lights in her vision faded. After the throbbing ceased, she cried out in joy, her lungs almost bursting, her vocal chords strained. It had worked, but Inuyasha wasn’t dumb…She knew sooner or later he’d figure it out. The walls of the vault were too thick and 2 miles below the surface was too long to dig…there must be a way. The whole compound was fallout safe and thick. She had to train more…She knew this plan would only work for so long. Maybe she could make night runs. No… he’d hear the door. Her joy faded. She had to think. Avoiding Inuyasha will make him angrier, risking her life more. The only way to solve the Inuyasha problem was to solve him. No. As crazy as it sounded, she rather be hunted then all alone. She had been alone too long. There must be a way. She sighed. It was hopeless. She’ll have to use the storm drains until she figured something else out. But till then. She had a tank to fill. Hopefully Inuyasha will be so confused, he’ll loose his interest for the day. Unlikely. She was going to use it too her advantage. It was time to surface again.

Inuyasha was in his converted penthouse, sitting cross-legged on his bed, holding Kagome’s sweater, staring at it while growling. He’ll never let her get away with today. Today was a fluke and he had to figure it out. He held up the sweater to his nose and growled.

“Bitch…I’ll have to teach her that if she tries anything like that again, she’s dog-meat. But I have a few days to-“

The familiar rumbling in the distance sent a shock through him.

“What the hell! That bitch!”

By the time he got there, she was gone. No smell remained. He turned around in a circle and yelled,

“Keep this up and I’ll rip your damned heart out!”

Kagome heard and hurried. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea, but she was already almost to the museum when she heard the scream of the outraged mutant. She ran into the museum and filled the containers. She dove back into the manhole before Inuyasha could pick up her trail. It happened again, His predator instincts got the best of him and he ran for his pray, but she was safely back in the vault before he could catch her.

He jumped into the nearest tree and waited…and waited…and waited. Kagome was below and decided she didn’t have to back up. She had enough water for almost 2 weeks. It wasn’t smart to pull that again. Next time she’ll make a night run. She knew Inuyasha would probably loose his patience and try to kill her soon. She had to be careful.

X-X-X-X-X-X-X

Inuyasha paced inside the Museum. He walked around the fountain, looking at it carefully. It was this she was coming here for. He smirked. There has to be a way for him to set a trap…yes. He had relied on his primal instincts for too long, now it was time to use his human intelligence. He looked around. There has to be something. He began to wander around and saw the huge dinosaur display. He looked at the bones of the brachiosaurus and smirked.

“Perfect. Ok Kagome. Want to play cat and mouse? Time I set myself a mouse trap.”

He tore the torso from the supports, the 30ft neck toppling down around him. He sliced down and got the cables from the hanging pterodactyl skeleton. He smiled as he planned out the perfect trap. He will teach her who’s smarter. Something inside him found it was being quenched. After years of hunting mindless animals, to hunt something with intelligence was far more fun. He smirked.

“Besides, if I kill her right away…what’s the fun in that?”

He found his mouth water and his body tingle from the thought about biting down on and licking her neck. There was something about that that made him crave for him to catch her. He didn’t know why, nor did he care, just as long as he could do whatever he wanted.

“Now the doggy’s going catch you little mouse.”

He jumped up into the highest balcony and stung the cables from one side to the other. He balanced the brachiosaur skeleton torso on the cabled and made a thin line down to by the fountain. There were no guarantees it’ll work… but it’s work a try. He needed to catch her.

She, in the meanwhile, will train more in martial arts and military tactic. If she were going to be this risky, she had to know what to do. She had to keep searching… searching for anyone else that lived… she had to stay on that radio for as long as she should, then her worst nightmare started. The lights flickered and browned out.

“No…No…”

The lights went off a moment then back on.

“My electricity….”
