Chapter 4: The  Game:

“KYA! HA!”

Rang out amongst the main chamber as Kagome wore a VR Helmet and a full body suit that made it seem very real. She was rounding off, kicking, punching. She watched in her goggles as her sensei taught her more moves. She has been in the vault 2 weeks and immediately began to train. No way was that monster ever getting the best of her. From, what she presumed was, dawn till dusk, she trained to be some-sort of a warrior. She will NOT bend over to him or for him.  She knocked down her virtual opponent and bowed to him. The sensei said with a smile, “Very well, Higurashi-san. Congratulations on earning your orange belt.”

She had a dissatisfied smirk. She had to push her limit.

“Sensei, please allow me to fight with a 2nd degree black belt.”
“As you wish”

Appearing in front of her was a good-looking fighter around her age. They bowed and the sensei called for the fight to begin. She hit all the glowing targets that aided her in her moves. She quickly was getting them, then to get even more challenging,

“Freestyle Mode”

The blinking targets disappeared and she was completely on her own. With round-offs, high-kicks and punches, she was doing fairly well, but then her virtual opponent smirked at her,

“You fight with much intensity, Higurashi-san”
“Well, I only try”

He got a cocky look on his face and said, “Try this”

Quickly, his difficulty level raised. Kagome gritted her teeth, her power-yells louder and more gruntle. Her score in the upper corner of her vision rose at a fast rate. Her sensei smiled pleasingly. Finally, he caught her off guard and kicked her right in the stomach, making her fly across the mat, in real life as well. She looked up at her Virtual opponent and he bowed.

“Congratulations, you’ve earned your green belt. A few more moves, you could have gotten your blue-belt.”

“Heh, I’ll remember that. Program off”

In a flicker, all went to black as she took off the helm and unzipped the suit, revealing she only was wearing her underwear. It was time to go into the replenishing tube to prevent soreness and stiffness, also conditioning her muscles. Then it was time to have breakfast.

Kagome wandered into the mess hall, still in her linen pajamas and her hair looking like she just put her tongue in a toaster. She glared at the food vending machine and walked up to it, her heart in her throat, praying to Kami-sama that at least something was left. Anything. She walked up to the colorful touch screen, which was flickering. She routinely said her name and I.D. number. The usually cheerful, clear female voice was not distorted and skipped.

“Pl…Pl-pl-pl-please proceed to the-the-the Menu. Warning: The Thiamine and Iron tanks are running dangerously low.”

She grimaced. Those were the 10 and 11th tanks to give that warning in 3 days. She didn’t care if all they had were sour cream, she DID NOT want to go back up to the surface, but her water was running low and she smelt like she swam in the sewer a few hours. It even gave her a headache. She knew she had to surface, and do it soon. She was glad the clinic was still fully working, except its water tanks needed filled. They must have thought it would double as a hospital after the people resurfaced. It’s a good thing too. A few times she had to laser seal some awful gash Inuyasha kindly bestowed on her. But she had surfaced since they made the deal. Her thoughts continued to the task at hand. The menu only showed 3 foods still available… unleavened bread, corn bread and rice. Naturally she ordered rice. She had to eat it by hand. Her mind wandered again. She needed more water for her tanks. She left the H2O in the food tanks, since basically no food can be made without it. She cringed as she tried to rationalize she could stay below a few more days, but when her smell is so bad, it could almost ruin her appetite if she weren’t starving…She knew there was no way of getting around it.

She had to surface… today…

After “breakfast”, she bravely got dressed in layers to pad herself, Went into the security bunker and strapped a laser pistol on each hip, a traditional M-16 model laser gun, a hunting knife and a small traditional bullet pistol on her waist below the double-cavlar vest. She set he hair in a high pony-tail, grabbed a camel-back backpack to carry the water she’d retrieve. A separate pack for food. Once situated, she stood in front of the chamber door and took a huge breath with a small prayer, then called out her Name and I.D. #, opening the now voice-activated door.

X-X-X-X-X-X-X

Inuyasha tapped on the concrete floor. 2 weeks he had waited. He was now angry at himself and her for making him so eager. Maybe it’d be better just to kill her off. No. Not yet. Not to mention her neck did taste delicious and her smell was captivating. He bounded to on top of the tallest sky scrapper and stared out. He could see for miles. It wasn’t anything but jungle, ruined cities scattered here and there, and mountains. Over the mountain that shadowed over the city was the ocean. He let the wind surround him, his red, glowing eyes surveyed the landscape. Growing bored again, he went inside, into his layer. He turned an office at the top floor of the tallest building into his home. It was cracked, but not weak standing. He hopped and curled up on his huge, round feather bed he found in an abandoned penthouse. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep… but not deep enough when a few minutes later his ears flicked and his mouth, without opening his eyes, made a huge, toothy grin, a fang popping out.

“Now, the fun begins.”

X-X-X-X-X-X-X

Kagome cringed at the thundering rumble of the door.

“I need to fix that. There’s no way Inuyasha didn’t hear that…”

She secured everything, then marched down to the street. The Onsen water perhaps was batheable, but not truly drinkable. She would go into the heart of Inuyasha’s territory, where they first met. The museum with the cracked, glass dome. She remembered the fountain had the best water she’d ever tasted. She slowed down a bit. Was the best water in the area worth almost death? Inuyasha will probably fight more fiercely if he considers that more of his “personal” land. But an encounter with Inuyasha was inevitable. Her face got serious as she knew fear would weaken her nerves. She’ll face whatever she needed to face. She became more cautious, her senses getting sharper as she entered the shadow of the downtown area. The ruins seemed to make her heart mourn. Many people died here, but where are all the bodies? She just noticed it. No bones or bodies. She pulled down her thermal scope that went over one eye, so body heat could be seen, incase he hid in the shadows. She charged her gun and warily walked down the cracked, pave main street. She saw the Museum and ran to it. She saw red and yellow in the corner of the eye with the thermal scope and rolled away, just barely missing Inuyasha’s grab. She rolled up on her feet and hand. Inuyasha stood up straight, a frown on his face.

   “You kept me waiting. Coward.”

Kagome stood up straight and smirked, “I needed to train. I was weak. No way I had a chance-“She dodged another pounce,”-Otherwise.”

Inuyasha growled, “You wench! What are you after?”

“Why should tell you?”

“The game. The deal.”

She remembered the terms of the deal…

“I’ll allow you out of your vault when you want… but I’m still allowed to hunt you. I won’t kill you just yet… But I’ll haunt you, hunt you, and do anything I want… you are my toy… you are my dog toy… I’ll chew on you, claw you… do whatever I want with you, toy…I’m not going to kill you… yet… but you are still my enemy…If you win. You can do as you will and I will not disturb you… If you lose, you loose, you must go back to the vault, but first you must obey a wish I have.”

She put her finger to the side of her mouth and had a look of thought, “Ah, that’s right.” She smirked, “Meaning if I get to base, you have to let me be till I come out again?”

He smirked and spread out his claws with a chuckle. Kagome glared at him,

“But no killing, right.”

“No, not today, but it seems a nice maiming is in order. Remove all your weapons except your knife.”

“But I don’t have your speed and ability!”

“Poor you. If you’ve been training, you wouldn’t need the guns. If you don’t unarm yourself, except for your knife, I WILL be out to kill you.”

“Why?”

“DON’T QUESTION ME!”

“WHY NOT!”

His ear twitched at the high pitch sound of the charged laser pistol and smirked,

“Really ready when it’s charged, but one problem.”

“What?”

“The charge fades when not used.”

Just then, the charge on her pistol faded. He laughed and charged at her. She drew her knife and gashed his leg while she rolled away. He seethed and yelled strong obscenities. Her stance was wide. No way could she fight him with all this stuff. The laser guns were useless unless she had enough time for them to charge. She threw her packs and useless weapons into the Museum door as Inuyasha glared at her.

“You’ll pay for that, Bitch!”

Wounding him and dodging his attacks gave her new-found confidence. An unknown feeling jolted through his body when she widened her stance, and with a smirk, chided,

“If you can catch me.”

Inuyasha looked at her puzzled a bit, his red eyes looking emptier then usual.

“Heh…I have know in my mind what I want to do when I get you.”

“What?”

“I’m sure you don’t want to know”

“Well, don’t count on acting on it.”

With no second thought, he ran at her. She closed her eyes and said a small prayer as she rounded-off, hitting something and hearing curses. She opened her eyes to see Inuyasha a few feet away on the ground, surprised then he smirked,

“Interesting”

She widened her stance again.

He jumped above her, expecting to pounce right on top of her. She did a rounded-high-kick and knocked him off his track, but he landed on his feet, charging at her with a loud, thundering snarl as she ran closer to the museum.

“Oh, hell no!”

He grabbed her vest and tossed her on the other side of the street. She landed on her stomach, cringing as she rolled over, just in time to put her legs up to push a pouncing Inuyasha off of her and rolled over again, immediately returning to her feet, as he, whom charged at her. She yipped as she barely missed
Another pounce.

“What the hell training did you take?!”

“Karate, a bit of Judo…Only green belt.”

Inuyasha rounded off a kick behind her, trying to get her in the head, but she spun and met it with hers. Inuyasha didn’t know whether to be mad, or excited. She threw a punch to his chest and he blocked it. She tried the other one, but he grabbed it and knocked her to the ground, but she immediately got back onto her feet. He chuckled,

“It shows”

She gritted her teeth and flew at him, confusing him for a moment before she started doing it again. She was quick, but not quick enough. She finally began to sneakily move them toward the museum.

“You ain’t as scary as you’d like to think you are.”

She panted and wiped the blood from her mouth,

“But you have to admit, its better this way? Did you honestly think I was going to be dumb enough to come up to the surface any longer without any defenses?”

“Actually, yes. You are a stupid little girl… I wouldn’t put it past you…Besides, I think I’m thrown off a bit because you smell as bad as 100 decomposing bodies!”

Her face got red, “WHAT WAS THAT!?”

“I’ve smelt S*** that smelled better.”

She began to laugh, “You smell…Uh-Oh”

She dodged and high-tailed it to the museum entrance. As she almost got there, he grabbed her vest and made her face him.

“I win.”

“You don’t have me pinned.” Then she knocked his feet from under him and before he could grab her, she smirked from inside the entrance.

“Safe.”

He looked at her with deadly, dangerous eyes. She gulped. In the most gruntle, low growl she’s ever heard from him,

“You still need to get back to the vault, little girl…When you exit to go back…You are mine.”

She tried to pay no mind as she got her equipment ready and headed inside to collect what she needed. She had to figure out a way to trick Inuyasha. 3 canteens and 2 camelback packs weren’t enough. She had to figure out how to come here in secret.  He has hearing and smelling like a dog. How do you fool to loose a rabid dog? She figured out a plan as she collected her water and extra computer parts to fix whatever was wrong at the vault.

“Doushou… (What should I do)?”

She sat on the edge of the fountain. She saw Inuyasha jump into a bush outside. She decided to wander around the museum a bit, seeing the damage from her and Inuyasha’s first meeting. She saw a flight of stairs that went down into the bottom floor. She turned on the light on the front of her vest…It was the part with all the precious stones… still intact… They sparkled in the light. She wandered and studied all that’s happened over the past 2,000 years. Seeing when her ancestors went underground. How survivor’s DNA was mixed with the DNA of an animal that shared the same fallout. 4 major wars…A plague that killed all but just a few humans. Somehow the mutants resisted cancer and diseases. Then what happened here? She did not know…Now the possibility of any survivors left seemed slimmer then before. She was alone…all alone. Inuyasha was the only “human” contact she had. Mutant or not, he was still branched from mostly Human DNA. She sighed and resurfaced. She looked in the back for exits. There was one, straight to the jungle and on the side of a mountain. She took her top shirt off and ripped it into 2, tying each piece around her feet. Hopefully, his hearing wouldn’t pick it up. She slipped carefully out from the back door and lightly began her track, careful that she was down-wind. It seemed to have worked. Finally, after a good 2 blocks, she ran for the vault.

Within 10 minutes of running, she saw it… but came to a halt.

“You cheater…”

Inuyasha scoffed, “Keh. I made the rules… and by the way… I broke none.”

“But… How am I supposed to get through?”

Inuyasha jumped in from of her and grinned, “You tell me…” He took a whiff of her newly cleaned self and grinned.

“Much better…”

She rounded a kick, but he caught it and chuckled. “You smell dulled my senses before… Now, they are energizing.”

She tried to twist herself out of it, which just resulted in getting held against him in a painful hold. She seethed as he whispered in her ear.

“I win…”

Kagome yelled out her code in a panic and wrestled with him,

“No! NO! Inuyasha! Let go!”

He held her shoulders and turned her around to him,

“Look, you agreed to the terms, bitch!” He licked his lips and stared at her greedily” She threw all her water in the vault door as it began to close. He chuckled dangerously,

“How much more will that last you? A few days, maybe?” He nuzzled into the crook of her neck and whispered, “This will be a game that will end the same…” He took a sniff and she cringed, growling. He snarled like an alpha dog putting the lower one in place. She growled,

“Stop that! I’m not a dog… don’t treat me lie I’m your bitch!...In the dog sense I mean I have a cl-”

He bit her neck hard and she let out a loud yipe and “ITAI!”

With his nose to hers and his glowing eyes right against hers, which he could tell was scaring her, he growled,

“You are my slave, bitch… Don’t ever forget your place!”

She pushed on him and growled, “I BELONG TO NO ONE!”

“Quiet as I’ll ripe your throat out!”

She froze and glared at him. He stared at her.

“You were so weak and lonely when we first met. Begging in tears for me to be your friend. That you’d understand me…But now look at you. You don’t trust me… you have anger in your eyes…almost hate-“

“-I DON’T HATE YOU!-“

“URUSEI TEMEE!”

“NO!”

Then she screamed at him,

“NO! I’ve agreed to your game! I’ve made you understood I’m no threat! I’m here too and if you want nothing to do with me then why bother!?”

“Because…I’m having fun.” He said with a devious tone.

“Now shut up! I won… Time for me to reap my win…”

Kagome growled, “Fine, but if you cross the line… I will fight back…with no fear of death. I rather DIE then give my body to a monster like you!”

Kagome noticed the sudden flash of pain in his eyes, then the memory struck her of the first time they met… he didn’t like being called one. He growled and while still holding on to her, swiped his claws a crossed her chest, leaving 5 long, bleeding claw marks as she didn’t scream, but she fought the pain.
He gritted his teeth and swiped her a crossed the face on both sides. She refused to scream, but glared at him,

“And you wonder why you are called a Mon-“

“SHUT UP!”

He held her neck and ran his claws, deep in her back, down, but not enough to be fatal, but enough to gash and bleed a lot. She seethed, a sob escaped,

“Come on, Kagome… Cry, Wench!”

“NO!”

She cringed as his claws tightened around her neck. He was furious.

“If you EVER call me that again… YOU WILL DIE! Now…”

He let go of her and held her bleeding form in against him as he used her neck, ear and shoulders as a chew toy, he licked the blood from her face. She grimaced the whole time, closing her eyes.

“Open your bloody eyes!”

She did and stared straight at him. He continued to repeat what he did the night they made the deal, but she was in a great amount of pain and seeing spots. When she fell against him, he tossed her down with a smirk.

“Play things my way next time.”

Hoarse, she growled,

“I did.”

“Keh…Go home before I decide I’d like to see if there’s anything else on you worth nibbling”

“What’s wrong with you!? Why do you have to be so evil?”

He looked at her seriously,

“What’s so evil about doing the things that pop into my head? I’m the ruler here…I’ll see you next time you surface…”

She crawled up to the door, saying her code, then collapsed inside, passing out.

After a few hours of sleeping in her own blood, she slowly, in pain and weak, packed everything onto the surfacing cart, went below and went to the clinic.
Long awaited and anticipated.

this is an intriguing and captivating story. inuyasha is a bit too violent for my tastes, one wonders if his mother had taught him any compassion.

one thing i hate about reading things at dA is that there are no links to the next chapter-- since you have quite a few chapter pieces it may be a good idea to make it easier for your readers to have links to the previous and next chapters when you post, it may take a little edit but i know i would appreciate it.

thank you,
